"And his people drank with greedy, cracked lips, kissing the liquid that flowed from Miriam’s rock. Like tears. Moses had struck it hard in his grief. He cried in his loss. The immeasurable weight of her death traveling through the old staff, cracking the sacred stone beneath. Oh to love, and then to lose. The rock cried in her submissive anguish. And the Hebrews cried in relief as the cold water quenched their thirst. The desert bloomed wherever her water flowed. All the life, except hers, thriving. Her body and spirit were left in the shifting sands of the wilderness.

And Moses found himself once again adrift in the waves of an unforgiving river. But without his sister, who would watch over him now?"
