Victoria Williams Steen

I am profoundly inspired by nature and the pure imagination of the child mind. By observing nature I see longing for balance in all things. I view each piece as a conversation. Often we speak on healing & the sacred connections between everything. There is an emphasis on the feminine, relationships & organic forms in my work. Every creation surprises and delights me. I hope it will do the same for you.

Often the messages in my work act as a prayer to restore balance to our planet. Central to this piece is the mandrake root highlighting our undeniable connection to nature and our ability to work with it rather than against it. If women's voices were recorded in these texts perhaps we would have useful information for the daily work of being a human. I imagine women might include recipes, tips for childcare and healing remedies. I often suspect the result of this imbalance is the human neglect and disrespect for our planet and its creatures. As we all are driven to understand ourselves and our world through our stories. The intention of this piece is to shed light on the feminine voice and aspects from the story of Jacob and his dreaming of a ladder to heaven. Maybe heaven is in some ways woven into how we show up in our lives and express that through our daily arts? Perhaps, most importantly, is the inclusion of 13 stars. The story is often told of the 12 tribes of Jacob, however, Jacob had 13 children. The shining star above Rachel and Leah is to represent the daughter of Jacob, Dinah.
